Countryberries is a primitive country gift shop located in scenic
Deerfield, New Hampshire. The shop is nestled in the side of a hill,
amidst trees and rock walls. One enters the shop through an herb
garden filled with bee skeps, birdhouses, signs and garden art which
continues onto the large front porch and into the shop.
Inside, electric candles, tin and wood lighting fixtures and lamps
made from old bobbins create a cozy atmosphere. The scents of
primitive candles and potpourri fill the air. The walls are richly
decorated with traditional stencils. The floors are wide pine boards
covered with braided rugs. One is reminded of a simpler time long ago.
Countryberries is arranged like a home. The "living room", complete
with fireplace and chandelier, features primitive paintings, miniature
houses and stenciled boxes. Folk art, decoys and Noah's arks share
space with primitive dolls and angels. Mohair bears by some of
America's leading artists snuggle on a painted pine bench.
Whimsical characters by Williraye are displayed in reproduction pine
cupboards. Every nook and cranny is filled with unusual folk art.
In the "kitchen" you'll find candles by Mole Hollow and Village
Candle as well as many unusual and primitive candles and
accessories. Stoneware and redware pottery, handwoven linens,
homespun and tin cookie cutters fill the shelves. Dips,
soups, cookie mixes and maple syrup line the cupboards next to
cookbooks from Gooseberry Patch. Handmade baskets hang from an
overhead beam.
Upstairs in the loft "bedroom", Boyds bears and bunnies, small quilts
and braided rugs are on display. Dried flowers fill a large
antique basket. Handmade soaps and bath salts are available in a variety
of delightful scents. Traditional stencils, as well as latex and simulated
milk paints by Olde Century Colors, are available for you to create your
own country look. A special northwoods area offers decorations for
cottages on local lakes.
Owners Bruce and Kathy Grahams' work is on display throughout
the shop. Kathy's primitive landscapes reflect the style of one of her
favorite artists, Rufus Porter. She paints on almost anything, but
prefers wood boxes and gameboards. She also paints many of the
signs and seasonal pieces such as scarecrows and angels. Currently,
she is painting a 32' mural of Deerfield for the town's elementary
school. Bruce enjoys woodworking and makes many of the furniture
pieces found thoughout the shop. His specialty is primitive pine
furniture with a painted and antiqued finish.
Countryberries is located on Route 107, just 1 ½ miles south of Route
